ISS director receives CESA award
ISS Facility Services’ Andy Jones has been honoured by the Catering Equipment Supplies Association (CESA) with its Order of Merit. Andy, who is service development director for ISS Facility Services, Healthcare received the award for his services to the catering equipment and food suppliers industry.

The CESA Order of Merit was presented at Hotelympia, held at ExCel London in April, where CESA Members gathered for a three-day show. Andy was singled out for this rare award because of his work in the field of health and welfare catering. His attention to detail relating to nutrition and hydration was also highlighted.

During Andy’s hospital ward visits, he noticed many patients were unable to keep their water glasses topped up. He found that the existing jugs were too large, and therefore too heavy to lift when full.

The large quantity of water also discouraged care staff from changing water regularly. The solution was a smaller, ergonomically designed jug that could also have different coloured lids, showing when the water was last changed. This was the first time any attention was given to this area for over 30 years. The design alteration received acclaim from patients and staff alike.

Speaking of the award Andy Jones said: “I am honoured to receive such a rare award but feel passionate about improving the patients stay, whether that is in hospital or a care home environment. I am grateful to ISS for allowing me the time to carry out this development work which should help thousands of people every year.”
