Mark Lopez, Founder and Co-director of De-Ice, has passed away after losing his battle with Covid-19.
Mark was born in Peckham, London in July 1960. He passed away at the Royal Papworth Hospital on 2nd April 2020, at the age of 59.
In an announcement, Mark’s wife, Vicky Lopez has paid tribute to a humble, kind, determined, loyal man, with a great sense of humour. His contributions to both the winter gritting and facilities management industries were vast. He was passionate about his work, was greatly admired, and was a true friend.
Mark grew up in South East London with his parents and four siblings. He was a keen football player, playing semi-professionally both at home and abroad. He had a successful career in money broking during the 80s and 90s working at Sterling Brokers, Cantor Fitz Gerald and Exco.
He met Vicky in 1998 and they married in 2005. The couple worked tirelessly to firstly establish DRP Landscaping and then De-ice Gritting & Snow Clearance – one of the UK’s longest established winter risk management providers.
He is survived by his five children: Dean, Ryan, Paige, Isobella and Reece.
Vicky Lopez said: “Mark was so loved, and he has given me such an amazing life. I will thank him every day that I walk on this earth for that. We are heartbroken, but we will be okay and will continue to live as Mark would have wanted us to.”
A local, family-only funeral will be held on Monday 27th April. A memorial will be arranged and announced when the current restrictions are lifted.
The family have asked that in lieu of flowers, charity donation to Helen Rollason Cancerhttps://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/formarklopez, or NHS Partnership Charitieshttps://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/robert-wells10, would be welcomed and appreciated.
