Mitie has expanded its partnership with Birmingham Airport with a new three-year contract to provide baggage screening and passenger assistance services. Mitie has been providing security services, such as access control, at the airport for eight years.
As part of its baggage screening service, Mitie will monitor thousands of pieces of check-in luggage for passengers flying from Birmingham Airport every day. With safety of passengers and employees the priority, the screening will allow Mitie to check that prohibited items, such as flammable liquids, are not loaded onto aircraft.
Services for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) will also be part of the new contract. From the moment a passenger in need of special assistance arrives at the airport, Mitie’s PRM Team will be available to help them travel to and from the aircraft. This support will be key for ensuring an excellent travel experience for passengers with reduced mobility.
Flexibility will be at the centre of Mitie’s service delivery. With changing lockdown restrictions affecting the number of flights, Mitie will continue to work closely with Birmingham Airport to quickly deploy colleagues, to provide the support needed to meet sudden changes in passenger numbers.
Al Titterington, Terminal Operations Director, Birmingham Airport, said: “As a longstanding partner of the airport spanning almost a decade, Mitie has played a key role in maintaining the safety and security of our customers and employees demonstrating flexibility and support throughout the pandemic. The award of this new contract follows a competitive tender process and we are looking forward to working with Mitie over the next three years to provide excellent service to our customers and airline partners.”
