MITIE TO MAKE ELECTRIC FLEET TRANSITION WITH POD POINT

Mitie is charging ahead with plans to electrify 20% of its fleet of smaller vehicles by 2020, selecting Pod Point as its sole charge point supplier.

Mitie, which employs 54,000 people across the UK and operates a fleet of more than 3,500 compact vans and cars, chose Pod Point due to its ability to offer a fully managed charge point service.

Pod Point’s app, which allows drivers to track their charging activity at home and en-route, was also a key factor in Mitie’s decision.

The new vehicles will be deployed both into Mitie and client depot locations and allocated to employees who take their vehicle home after work. Pod Point will support Mitie by installing 800 chargepoints at Mitie and client offices and employee homes by the end of 2020.

Simon King, Head of Fleet and Procurement, Mitie, said: “With our commitment to switch at least 20% of our fleet to electric by 2020, we know we have a challenge ahead. Changing behaviour is a key roadblock, so having access to adequate charging infrastructure, installed in the right places, will be vital to ensuring we can meet this challenge, so our drivers can plug-in and charge, wherever they are.

“Pod Point’s smart chargepoints and ability to offer a fully managed service offers us peace of mind that our drivers will be able to charge where and when they need to, ensuring our transition to electric is a smooth one.”

Erik Fairbairn, Pod Point CEO and Founder, said: “Mitie is showing real industry leadership with its commitment to going electric and we’re delighted to have been chosen as the company’s EV charging partner.”
