Casella, an expert in noise monitoring equipment, has announced it has achieved Western European Legal Metrology Cooperation (WELMEC) approval on its dBadge2 noise dosimeter in Spain. The new certification establishes Casella as one of only two manufacturers that have a product’s acoustic performance verified against the international standard for noise dosimeters IEC 61252, ensuring confidence in measured results.
The WELMEC certification is the first of its kind for acoustic products, indicating that noise data is being stored in a new way within the instrument, allowing downloaded data to be legally recalled and verified. The certification also provides a way of ensuring that the instrument’s operating system and firmware is original and the correct version.
The new certification adds to the dBadge2’s existing approvals for intrinsic safety, including MSHA, IECex, ATEX and QPS, demonstrating Casella’s continued commitment to delivering monitoring devices that support workers in the most demanding environments.
Designed to help combat noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), the most recorded occupational disorder in Europe, the dBadge2 offers a recognised and compliant method of making a noise exposure assessment, helping to identify workers at risk.
The dBadge2 can be worn by employees for their entire working shift and its lightweight, body-mounted design is ideal for personal noise exposure monitoring. The dBadge2 also features motion detection to ensure that the device is consistently worn, and optional features such as level-triggered audio recording to verify sources of high noise levels.
The dBadge2 with AirWave app connectivity enables employee noise exposure monitoring and reporting in real-time and without disruption to workers. The app enables users to remotely start, pause or stop a measurement run, monitor battery life and memory capacity and check measurement progress direct from a mobile device, without having to disturb the worker, ultimately improving productivity levels.
Equipped with Casella’s industry-leading software, NoiseSafe, the pioneering technology provides graphical analysis of noise levels throughout the day and can download a typical eight-hour workplace recording in just a few seconds.
“We’re delighted to have achieved yet another certification for the dBadge2”, comments Tim Turney, Global Marketing Manager at Casella. “NIHL can seriously impair a worker’s quality of life. However, the damage is preventable through the use of the correct controls. Having a noise dosimeter capable of measuring exposure accurately is critical for ensuring that exposure is measured.”
