BRITCON TO CONVERT WWII HANGAR

Building, civil engineering and structural steelwork contractor, Britcon has been awarded a contract by Peel Holdings (Management) Ltd to refurbish a World War II Hangar at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield.

As well as an internal upgrade, Britcon UK will refurbish the associated offices including the strip out of existing M&E installations and provision of new facilities in readiness for occupation. External works will include a new car park and horticultural provisions. A major part of the brief is to refurbish the existing Hangar doors which have not been used for many years. The sliding doors, which form part of the original building, are filled with ballast to provide blast protection to the unit, during the Second World War. The works involves restoration of the doors to enable them to operate fully.

Ian Chapman, Regional Manager at Britcon, said: “We are delighted to secure our first contract for the Peel Group after a competitive tender process.  e secured the work because of our collaborative approach to problem solving and our ability to provide complete construction support services without subcontracting.”

Steve Gill, Managing Director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, added: “The refurbishment of hangar one at Doncaster Sheffield Airport is fantastic news. With work gathering a pace on the new FARRRS link road and developments in and around the airport building the area is becoming more and more attractive. It will be great to see the renovation of this important space at the airport.”
