ISS gains two prestigious awards for Southbank Centre

Colleagues from ISS Technical Services are celebrating having been successfully recertified with two prestigious awards for asset and energy management at Southbank Centre, London.

Welcoming over five million visitors each year, Southbank Centre is Europe’s largest arts centre and has been supported by ISS Technical Services since 2011. Here, the 26 resident engineering and mechanical specialists, plus seven support staff, provide mechanical and electrical maintenance 24 hours a day, 364 days a year.

The unified partnership between ISS Technical Services and Southbank has seen both the Asset Management ISO 55001 and Energy Management ISO 50001 accreditations re-awarded following a three-year period – something which is notoriously difficult to achieve.

Led by the British Standards Institution (BSI), the ISO 55001 and ISO 50001 are renowned international standards for how businesses manage a building’s assets onsite, from lifts to boilers, and how organisations effectively control energy consumption respectively.

This year’s successful reaccreditation of the industry accolades follows an intense period of audit and evidence-based evaluation, with the BSI final report highlighting that ‘the relationship between ISS and The Southbank Centre is strong and seamless.’

Wayne Bass, Contract Manager for ISS Technical Services, said: “We’re awarded an ISO for a three-year period initially, with an assessment every year, and we then need to reapply – so it’s an intense and challenging process that every single team member, both ISS and Southbank Centre, is part of.

“We were the first London building to achieve the ISO 55001 award in 2015 and we’re extremely proud that we’ve maintained this high standard of operational activity. We’re also very proud of the seamless and highly-effective relationship we have with our client colleagues at Southbank Centre, which has developed over our seven years of service.

“Together, we’ve demonstrated that we’re meeting the BSI criteria − guaranteeing the lifecycle of Southbank Centre’s assets and managing the site’s energy consumption effectively, also reducing costs and minimising risk.

“These accreditations are confirmation that we’re going over and above what’s expected, that we’re working well in partnership with our valued client and, importantly, that we’re fulfilling Southbank Centre’s funding body requirements.”
