Wolverhampton Council first to benefit from new secure workplace lockers

The City of Wolverhampton Council has been the first local authority to benefit from David Bailey Furniture Systems’ brand new range of workplace lockers, which the fitted furniture manufacturer recently added to its extensive product portfolio.

This spring, David Bailey Furniture Systems manufactured and supplied 67 six-door locker units, which were installed on one floor at Wolverhampton Council’s offices and in September a further 75 six-door locker units were supplied.

Designed to offer secure and convenient storage, David Bailey Furniture Systems’ workplace lockers replace the councils’ previous desk pedestal system for storing staffs personal effects, clothing, possessions and confidential documents.

Due to the changing culture with council staff hot desking and working from home, Wolverhampton Council found that they were operating on a 7:10 ratio with seven desks for every 10 staff. Replacing the desk pedestals with lockers meant that the council could allocate one locker to every member of staff whist saving space, since the lockers were built to fit underneath the window ledges.

Custom-made to meet the client’s specification, the workplace lockers were manufactured from a 25mm dark grey melamine-faced chipboard carcass. Each locker unit was constructed with an over sailing top and 18mm vertical and horizontal divisions. To match the carcass, dark grey laminate was chosen for the locker doors, which were manufactured from 15mm MDF laminated both sides and hung on 90 degree hinges. Each locker unit came with its own lock and number disc for added security.

Trevor Gillman, Owner and Managing Director or David Bailey Furniture Systems, said: “Our durable workplace lockers are proving popular with council offices, but they are suitable for all office environments including hospitals, schools, universities and businesses of all shapes and sizes.

“Available in three-door, four-door, six-door, eight-door or 12-door configurations, our locker carcasses come in white, grey or beech melamine as standard, but with a wide variety of laminate door colour options.”
